‘Shrutapanchami Parva’
Celebrated at Shravanabelagola

The Agama Siddhanta tradition of Bhagavan Sri Mahavira was passed down orally through Gandharas, Kevalis, Srutakevalis, and Acharyas. Dharasenacharya was aware of the fact that the Agama might die out as people’s memories weaken over time. With the idea of preserving this Agama heritage for future generations, he imparted all the knowledge he had to the young disciples Bhootabali and Pushpadantha, examined them, and was convinced that they were worthy of transcribing the Agamas. He entrusted them with this responsibility. In due course, the work of codifying the Agama was completed and named Shatkhandagama.

The Jyeshtha Shukla Panchami day, when the Jain Agamas were written down and completed, is celebrated as Srutapanchami every year with joy all over the country.

On the occasion of Srutapanchami in Shravanabelagola, in the holy presence of His Holiness Munishree Puranasagara Maharaj, His Holiness Munishree Divyasagar Maharaj, Pujya Aryika Nirmalamati Mataji, and under the holy guidance of His Holiness Jagadguru Swastishrimadabhinava Charukirthi Panditacharyavarya Bhattarak Pattacharyavarya Mahaswami, a Puja to Saraswati Amma is conducted in the morning. The arghya dedication and Jinavani’s procession in a silver palanquin starts from Sri Math and ends at Bhandari Basadi, with a special puja and prayer of the Dhavala Granths enthroned.

The books KarmaVipaka (Translated by Dr. N. Suresh Kumar, Director-NIPSAR), Tribhangi Vyakhyana (Edited by Dr. S.V.
